Why Is My Child So Angry? What Parents and School Staff Can Do To Help.

Wednesday, November 29, 2023 (6:00 PM - 7:30 PM) (CST)

Description

Anger is a normal and important emotion. However, angry behaviors may become a problem if a child’s actions are out of control or aggressive. It is often difficult for parents and/or school staff to handle kids’ explosive and volatile behavior, but understanding why they are acting out can help.

Children may act out because they don’t know how to manage their feelings in more adaptive ways, because they lack adequate communication skills, they may struggle with impulse control, or they have not developed adequate problem-solving abilities.

Through this FREE presentation, Dr. Mervin Langley of Advocate Aurora Behavioral Health, will provide a comprehensive evidence-based model of collaboration between school and family with three parts: a family component, a child component, and a school component. Each part will include skill building strategies and ways to modify angry behaviors in children.  The primary age ranges targeted in this presentation are 4-13 years of age.
